KID POLITICS RELEASES “MOVING ON”
Kid Politics has released their latest single “Moving On” proving why the unstoppable band is doing JUST THAT. The sky is the limit for one of the most exciting rising careers in Music City. Following a collection of upbeat tracks that will no doubt having you dancing holes in your chucks, the band settles for a sensitive jam that stings like only love can.
I was recently able to catch Kid Politics at 3rd & Lindsey for a WME showcase. Many familiar with the band recognize the frontman for his uniquely animated onstage presence. On this particular evening however, lead vocalist Kelby Dover paused to deliver a heart felt ballad from behind his keyboard. All ears in the room seemed to be hung on the young hipster’s every word. And the band sure didn’t let anyone down.
THE WONDER OF “WE”
“Moving On” engages soaring melodies but focuses on the hardships of a relationship in demise. One can identify with the trembling and authentic pain in Kelby’s vocal because it resonates a special truth. The relationship he sings about has taken an unfortunate turn. Whatever the cause, the threads that used to bind are unraveling. Kelby seems frustrated with the symptoms. Guess it’s nobody’s fault / and the neighbors can hear / you slam the door / Is all this necessary?
I believe what’s so powerful about Kid Politics’ delivery in the ballad is the singer’s continuous use of the words “we” and “our“. Although the hook cries “I’M moving on”, Kelby can’t help but continue to refer to the two as one. Although he introduces the idea of a separation early, its not long before he pays homage to the shared experience. It’s power is most prevalent in the bridge. We felt the silence / falling on us / from above / we tried to hide it / but it only came back / worse than before / We never saw it / all the writing on the wall. Kelby continues to recognize his partner’s involvement in the mutual struggle for peace. We tried to fight it / but it all just fell apart / in our hands.
Can we begin / to start again? / forget it ever happened?
