Drew Dixon
Drew Dixon is paving his own pathway as an artist with a unique vocal tone that will evoke some nostalgic feelings of hot summer nights in the south. Coming from South Carolina to Nashville a few years ago, Drew brought with him his musical influences ranging from blues, soul to R&B. We can be sure to thank his parents for his passion for music. Drew recalls being six years old, sitting behind his toy drum set. He remembers his dad’s vast record collection. These memories have become engrained in Drew’s memory, and his warm tone creates the same effect. Once you listen to his voice, you can’t forget it. It’s as vintage as an old record player and as comforting as a childhood memory.
Drew’s love for literature has bled into his lyrical bliss as he focuses on bringing characters to life. He creates music with a storyline that gets you hooked on his lyrics. For Drew Dixon, that is where his inspiration originates.
“Whiskey and Wine” Is a Song and a Hangover to Remember
Drew Dixon’s newest single that he wrote with Levi Hummon, “Whiskey and Wine” is all about a hangover waiting to happen. And when I say hangover, I mean a breakup. This is an emotionally charged track that makes you feel it in your toes. Drew Dixon provides it all in his painfully honest lyrics with raw vibrato and a deep vocal range. Drew Dixon touches on wanting something that’s bad for you, similar to mixing whiskey with wine. You keep fighting, and you keep lying to yourself, but you just can’t get enough. A toxic relationship can create a headache; similar to the kind you get from drinking too much. Besides his tone, the cleverness behind Drew’s lyrics is what stood out.
What is Drew Up To?
Besides his hidden talent of making burritos disappear within a matter of seconds, Drew Dixon also has an impressive track record of touring quite extensively. He has opened for the likes of Chase Rice and Kaleo, and continues to play gigs out of state. With a work ethic that speaks for itself, it is no surprise that he has landed some impressive shows including one in particular that stood out to him. He recalls opening for Kaleo, in front of a very interactive crowd at the House of Blues in Dallas. “It’s all about enjoying where you are, but realizing you still have a ways to go”, Drew humbly stated to me during our one on one interview.
Drew Dixon’s hope is to create music that makes his listeners feel his music, not just listen. He is making music that is not just surface level, but that leaves you wanting more, similar to reading a really good book that you can’t put down.
Take a listen to “Whiskey and Wine”, and you may also want to rethink your next choice in alcohol.
