Sam Tinnesz is one of the better songwriters in Nashville. There may be some bias to that statement, but hey, there’s a reason he’s Alumni. A couple weeks ago he took us to a different place with his songwriting. A very deep and personal place as he released his latest single “I Don’t Miss You”. You could hear it in the song how personal this song was.
I Don’t Miss You In His Words
This past Friday he released the music video for it and we can see just how personal & heartfelt this song is with our own eyes. But don’t just take it from me. ST put out a statement on Instagram describing this video in his own words:
As an artist, sometimes you make something you’re excited to release because you think it’ll be commercially successful and everyone will love it… but then sometimes a song comes out of you that scares you. Not because you think it’ll fail but because maybe you pulled the curtain back just a little too much. I’ve held some of those songs back in the past or just chose not to finish them but I couldn’t do that with “I Don’t Miss You” . I knew I had to lean into it and show you as much of the truth as I possibly could. I spent hours grabbing videos off of a vcr that made me laugh and cry. The day we went to shoot the music video with [Sean Hagwell] I felt sick. I was so nervous about staring face to face with all this grief and pain… but then something special happened. Shooting this video reminded me of something I had almost forgotten. My dad was my best friend. He was incredible. He was my mirror image too. We look so much alike, we parent so much alike and suddenly in the process of making this video I was comforted to remember where I came from. This song has been healing for me and I hope it’s the same for you…
