“Sweets” The Mixtape – The melodic appetizer from Lackhoney

Following his single packed 2019, Lackhoney started 2020 off strong. Coming fresh out the gate dropping a Mixtape & Visual on Feb. 14th! Lackhoney’s approach to this mixtape is one of the most creative positioning for an mixtape that we’ve seen in the independent market. Showing diversity in each song, he served the world up a dish of melodic appetizers. All-the-while creating a demand for his music that his fans want fulfilled. We anticipate this mixtape will create a mass of ravenous fans for his new music, quickly.

The mixtape starts with the single “Broken”, showcasing Lackhoney’s ability to get vulnerable. “Broken” is just that, the feeling of being lost and broken. This song hits hard and lyrically, hits deep for 30 seconds.

“Right Away” immediately hits you with these feel-good vibes. His rhythmic flow is almost that of a conversation. While Lackhoney’s lyrics communicate that desire to just dive into a relationship “right away”.

“Weeknight” oozes with some mid to late 90’s Wyclef hip hop. Moving into some hip hop vibes that continues to flex Lachoney’s diversity in his flow.

“Swing Ching”‘s got this infectious Jamaican energy. This jam has this fresh new hip hop sound mixed with worldly culture. It’s definitely a song that could hold it’s own on the radio.

“Jakeamon” is in a world all its own. Lackhoney’s writing and delivery on this song will have your mind twisted like a pretzel. Brilliantly executed!

The 11 Minute Visual Narrative

Now onto the music video for “Sweets” also referred to as Lackhoney’s Visual Narrative; as he tells 12 30-Second stories in 11 minutes. Mixing in individual music videos for each track along with Documentary style scenes throughout. Again, yet another creative approach from Lackhoney and his team.

The “SWEETS” visual was shot by Trent Millspaugh; his work including projects with the likes of Taylor Swift, Mumford & Sons, and Hippo Campus. The visual details the track’s various themes in a documentary style video spliced with more abstract cinematics. Throughout, Lackhoney explores topics such as his personal struggles with familial addiction, his experience in an interracial relationship, day-to-day life as a college student, and pressure to succeed as an Indian-American student. The rapper’s authentic personality shines uniting the otherwise eccentric collection – it is the genesis of a new artist’s vision coming to light.

This visual/Mini-Doc takes you on a journey from place to place to get a new depth to a: 6 minute, 12 track, 1 Song mixtape. What a brilliant idea to showcase his range of producing & songwriting. That, followed by the visual, so brilliantly weaved together, really brings it home.
