LVRBOY Releases Crying On The Phone
LVRBOY – Crying On The Phone – NU Review
You may remember this artist from our NU alumni last year, He went by the name Jordan DePaul, now going under the moniker LVRBOY. An homage to his sensitive side and his consistent Loverboy title his friends gave him. In May of 2020, LVRBOY released his mini album titled Ghost in My Room. Equipped with pop hits like “Now That I’m Leaving” and broken love songs like “I Don’t Think About You”. With the new release Crying On The Phone, LVRBOY takes you on a deeper dive inside of his heart. Don’t worry ladies, this is the very first single on his newest album project. There will be lots more where this came from.
Secrets behind “Crying On The Phone”
LVRBOY is at the very beginning of a slew of releases he will be bestowing on us very soon. But in the meantime you are now officially graced with the very first track “Crying on the Phone”. We couldn’t be anymore stoked to give you the complete scoop on this new jam.
The Lyrics
After chatting with LVRBOY, we got some exclusive info on how this track came to life. He said “CRYING ON THE PHONE is somewhat of a vengeful track about on-and-off again relationships (or flings). I wrote this particular song about a girl I met through a mutual friend a few weeks before Covid quarantine began. We hung out for about a month and when things seemingly started getting a bit more serious, she pulled away saying it was a bad idea to date. A few days later, she wanted me back.” These types of emotions always warrant the best songs in our opinion. LVRBOY continues to say “The song hints at immaturity (pretty blatantly) with the opening line, “you’re so 21 it should’ve been so obvious.” I think we’ve all dabbled (or dove deep into) in those immature relationships that have you playing games you didn’t sign up for. “I wrote this with my best friend STRUAN, who cowrote five of the six songs on my debut mini album, “ghost in my room.”
The Production
The clean, mellow, vibey production has a specific stamp on it that is recognizable. A stamp that brands the music to the brand itself. LVRBOY said “Like “ghost in my room,” CRYING ON THE PHONE was produced by Garrett Miller and myself. I made the decision to split this song into two tracks, CRYING ON THE PHONE and CRYING ON THE PHONE (REPRISE). The reprise, a 47-second track with the only lyrics being “now you wanna come back, you don’t even mean that” is meant to represent the girl’s indecisiveness about what she wants.” Symbolic indeed! This is also the first LVRBOY track to mix samples and live drums, proven to be a great decision.
The Vibe
So I know most of you won’t even know what this gadget in the photo is. It’s called an “old school, landline, telephone” and back in the day you would use it to call people. Sometimes it had a swirly cord on it (like the one in the photo) and you would get caught up on it while trying to talk for extended amounts of time. Which often times led to just popping a squat and chillin on the floor. The yellow phone in the photo is what set the entire 80’s vibe for the single.
