Gran Cavallo:

No Matter

Gran Cavallo Cover Art No Matter Gran Cavallo: New Name. No Problem

The last time I sat down with a song from him he was going by a different name; Jack Berry. At that time he had released Mad Behavior where I got the chance to do a NU Review on it. In the process of writing it I had a self-realization about how cool my job is. I get to work with and cover independent musicians day in and day out. So when Amber said Jack Berry had a new project, with a new name, new music, and wanted to bring him back for a Homecoming Interview I was like “HELLS YEAH”!! These days he’s known as Gran Cavallo and back on Feb. 14, 2020 dropped his first single No Matter under his new moniker.

Wordsmith

One of the things that has made me a fan of Jack’s is how much of a wordsmith he is. His smooth vocals laying overtop a goovy rock-n-roll production that keeps me as a listener enthralled into every note, every line. A song released on Valentines day that draws comparisons of love to a matador “the grasp of love seemed to require the finesse of a matador” is a touch of truth and irony. (*He dropped the lyric video above that the imagery perfectly plays into that)

A lot of us run bullishly into relationships, full steam ahead, not thinking of the long term. We’re just concerned about the joy, the excitement, and thrill we get in the moment. For some of us it’s a lasting feeling. Although for some it’s hard to finesse around the fact that after the original adrenaline rush of seeing red is gone, it all starts to fade back to grey. That is represented in the opening line when he says “Lately Love, Ain’t Easy As It Used To Be”. I guess that’s the irony of releasing it on Valentines Day.

I love this song and can’t wait to hear the rest of the tunes he has slated for 2020! Listen to a sample below, watch the lyric video above, or stream the whole song on Spotify HERE
