Background
Even as a young child, Josh Gabbard was surrounded by music. His grandmother was a touring artist, singing jazz and big-band in the 40’s. His dad started teaching him drums when he was 3 years old and his mother sang and played piano. Which he started learning at 9. He was exposed to a range of genres and artist such as: Stevie Wonder, The Temptations, Marvin Gaye, Frank Sinatra, Keely Smith, Nat King Cole, and many more. However, growing up in the ‘90’s, he found himself being most influenced by Pop, R&B and Hip Hop. With such artists as Michael Jackson, Kanye West, Ms. Lauren Hill, Justin Timberlake, Outkast and more.
Gabbard went to college at Western Kentucky University, just a couple hours from his hometown of Louisville, Kentucky. It was there that a friend introduced him to a program called Fruity Loops and it was then that he started creating beats and building tracks for friends aspiring to be artists. Anxious to start his own creative career, he started commuting to Nashville, Tennessee in his last semester before he graduated and made the move. As an artist, you know him as GATSBY. He prides himself on being authentic with his words inviting a very real perspective on relationships. His catchy pop melodies live on a music bed rooted in soul. With his sexy songs and fun personality, he is happiest entertaining and connecting with people.
“Ultimately I want to create music that can become a soundtrack to people’s life experiences.
If my music can take people back to a certain memory or specific moment, I think that is every artists dream.”
