WILDWOOD Pays Homage To Her Lineage In New Elegant Cover of “Ring Of Fire”
The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, especially in this case!
Anne Buckle, also known as WILDWOOD, released her own rendition of Johnny Cash’s “Ring of Fire”. With June Carter Cash and Anita Carter being her cousins, WILDWOOD has done something quite special to specifically honor the women behind the song. While June was the writer behind the song, Anita Carter was the first to record it. You might need a tissue for this one folks!!
Anne remarks quite beautifully, “I’m fortunate enough to call these two women my cousins. So here’s my version of “Ring of Fire,” as a tribute to the women of my family, bringing back the female perspective to this decades-old classic”.
Between the quivering violin and the echoing piano, it’s breathtakingly beautiful. It showcases WILDWOOD’s ability to take something that is decades old and transform it into something completely her own. Not to mention, her vocals float effortlessly throughout the whole cover. Emotionally charged, I could hear the history and feelings behind the song.
And like WILDWOOD says and maybe something we all need to remember is that “Behind every great man, is a great woman”. Not every woman has received the credit or recognition over the years; this could be a musician, a journalist, a doctor, or anyone who has had to write under a pseudonym instead of using their feminine name. WILDWOOD’s beautiful cover and side note is a reminder to not let history go unspoken and to remember where you come from.
She does a great job of paying tribute to her cousins and doing it from her point of view. With big hits and classics like “Ring of Fire”, it’s not always easy to take one and make it something truly unique. But MY OH MY, WILDWOOD has done it again. Her cover bleeds grace, elegance, and authenticity, and I’m sure the Carter family agrees, pays homage to her roots.
