Nashville Unsigned and Emerging Rock Band Lions After Dark
We at Nashville Unsigned love some rock, and this Nashville rock group really delivers. Lions After Dark is a female-led, hybrid hard/indie rock with creative audial effects. These distortions can bring a dreamy quirkiness, or a haunting edge, to each song. The band excels in implementing this in both their instruments and lead singer Maddie Pfeiffer’s wailing vocals. With gritty, leather-clad rock mixed with indie vibes, this group is making a splash in the Music City rock scene.
Originally from Tampa, Florida, Lions After Dark moved to Nashville to take their music to the next level. The band is made up of brother and sister Kurt (drums) and Maddie (vocals) Pfeiffer , along with guitarist Andrew Roden.
Their latest album, “Awake”, was written and recorded in 2012 at Beiler Brothers in Miami with producer Matt LaPlant. And in September of 2013, it was released with an epic show at Club Detroit in St. Petersburg. This album features a stylistic mixture of grit with the flair of indie rock.
“Dark Star” and “Get It”
“Dark Star” is one of their edgier jams, and this writer’s favorite from the album. The band mixes heavily-distorted instrumentals and intense energy with stylized, hauntingly dark elements. Maddie’s vocal performance absolutely slays in this song. It’s intense through the chorus, and stylized throughout the rest of the song. The heavy distortion of the guitars and hard-hitting drums are complimented by her dynamic range as the front. This is true for both her sheer energy and vocal talent.
“Get It” is their most recent single and video. This song is chock full of grit and attitude, and the video expresses raw feelings of frustration. This video features lead singer Maddie exposed (not completely, cool your jets), as if she just got out of the shower drunk and angry. The style the video was shot in expresses the song in a creative way. The exposure and drinking show vulnerability, while the attitude and powerful vocals express a certain strength. All of these elements create the image of grit that this band is so well-known for. It’s classic rock ‘n roll attitude.
