Made up of lead guitarist Wes Lunsford and singer/songwriter Laurel Wright, this quirky and fun-loving duo packs some serious talent into one small package known as Young Fables. With backgrounds in East Tennessee Americana and country music, including church gospel and jazz, these two blend their unique sounds together seamlessly. The end result is an Americana/country sound with beautiful harmonies, a lighthearted vibe, and attention to storytelling because, well… they have interesting stories to tell.
Wright took up the guitar after the loss of her grandfather at the young age of ten. She had been singing in church since she was three, but picking up the guitar started her journey down songwriting. Her impressive voice took her far, as she won the Texaco Country Showdown at just 16 and has been a a semi-finalist on American Idol Season 13 and 14– making it to the top 48 in season 15. She had her solo career going in full-swing; until one fateful night her lead guitarist backed out of a gig last minute. This is when she met the only guitarist she ever wanted to play with again, Wes Lunsford.
Like Wright, Lunsford grew up around music, and began playing at an early age. His first instrument was the piano, and he took lessons for several years. This led to his teenage years of playing in rock bands and eventually a continued college education from UT Knoxville in Studio Music and Jazz. It wasn’t until he toured with a group of musicians in China, of all places, that he fell in love with country music. So when some of his studio music friends mentioned a fellow country musician in need, he stepped up and filled in. Go figure it was a beautiful country musician he would later fall for.
Now the duo has released their first studio album, “Two”, whose title is shared by their first single. “Two” is a fun song. The kind of song that makes you feel good. With Wright’s charisma and vocal talents, Lunsford ads a dreamy background melody with an electric guitar that sounds like it came straight out of the 50’s surf rock styles. The video is hilarious, with the two dressed in mismatched outfits and sunglasses with one lens, as if they were incomplete as a solo act until they found each other. Now, they are having fun with their talents, and it shows through in this video.
