Drew Dixon’s “Madam D’s” music video show’s Dixon’s lowdown, dirty (in the best of ways) style of songwriting with his mixture of delta blues and southern gothic genres. Rustic vocals, gritty riffs and a steady tempo keep your head bobbing as Dixon takes on a ride to the dark side.
His style is very Nashville, yet not the pop country people tend to think about when it comes to this city. The music Dixon writes is inspired by a mixture of folk storytelling and deep south blues. It’s something that touches on the mythologies of the deep south, about making deals with the devil at the crossroads or stumbling into a New Orleans voodoo shop. Drew Dixon’s “Madam D’s” touches on this aesthetic in a visceral way. It has a horror-movie edge, but is absolutely true to his southern roots.
Are you guys ready for the next man in black?
The music video follows this concept closely. Using vampiric brothel workers as subject, Drew Dixon’s “Madam D’s” could have easily fit in with the popular “True Blood” HBO series. His black-suit-witchdoctor game is strong, and the video really goes there when the hot vampire chicks are head-to-toe doused in blood. The grit is strong with this guy, and that’s how we like it Nashville Unsigned.
Dixon’s niche style has a genuine cool factor. It might not be for everyone; but for those that get it, it’s the real deal. This format is also a cool way to blend genre and brand. Like heavy rock genres, blues and southern rock have histories of making music on the dark side. Drew follows this lineage with his own tonal quality, riffs, and writing style. Also, there’s definitely a hint of Rob Zombie in that music video, or nah?
