Kid Politics has just dropped their third single “Lost In The Jungle”. Nashville Unsigned is thrilled to be the first to jam it in your earhole.
A CYCLE OF TASTE
As we are hit with fresh artists and sounds err’day, it may feel like the style of popular music comes out of no man’s land. But if you zoom out just a bit, you may discover there’s a familiar pattern in the madness. Rock and Pop seem to be in a never ending dance with one another. We identify with rebellion and angst and Rock flourishes. But eventually, we tire, Rock seems to have outstayed it’s welcome and Pop captures our hearts and charts once again. It’s been back and forth about every 12 years on the reg since the 1950’s. Don’t believe us? Check the billboards. The Stones gave way to Madonna who traded up to Nirvana who ushered in Aguilera and Spears.
THE TRANSITION
It’s been Pop’s world for a minute and the calendar would seem to suggest that Rock is knocking on the door. Lucky for us all, there is a sweet spot in the passing of the baton. The feel good candy vibes found in Pop music begin to throw their arms around more serious tones. Lead singers surprise us with a heightened conviction in their performances, and new acts seem to DEMAND that you MOVE YOUR ASS. That’s rock and roll seeping in. Damn. I LOVE the transition years. They feel like spring.
KID POLITICS EMBODY THE BATON
Nowhere is the beauty of the limbo more present in Nashville’s independent scene than in the music of Kid Politics. Frontman, Kelby Dover, is just the right fit with his radical high pitch falsetto and commitment to counterculture. The band is even slapping traditional release models in the face with single-only releases that are garnering just as much attention as a full length. Kid Politics is doing things their way and no one can tell them different.
LOST IN THE JUNGLE
Right out the gate, the latest release from the trio opens with a chucks-stompin four-on-the-floor beat tied to steel drum punishment. I feel the danger / moving in our nature / ready to rumble / every time I hold ya close! Kelby soars through a flawless vocal that has us gasping, “Now, THAT’s what I’ve been MISSING!”
Kid Politics was surely born in the wild and we don’t mind getting lost in the jungle right along side of them. Hey, there may be danger in the thick, but rock and roll is just around the corner! We feel invincible and so will you. So, lace up your converse, pop in some buds and get down with Kid Politics’ “Lost In The Jungle”. It’s the sweet spot at it’s best.
