Must Be Hard Being You
Men & Women
There is a social construct that gives people the notion to go out of their way to help a woman in need. Even just to make their day a little easier. If you can run to a door to hold it. We do. On a crowded Subway in work traffic. Give up your seat. Honestly with all that women do and have to deal with. Guys, just do it. Make their day even the tiniest bit that much better.
See there is a caveat to that thought. Men are, how to put this… Men are for the most part, surface level, when it comes to why (and in this case) who we will go out of our way for. I’m a guy I can say that. As guys (well some of us), if we are attracted to someone we will do any and everything to be nice, courteous, and gentlemanly to hopefully make a solid first impression. Maybe it helps us spark up a conversation by giving them a seat. Maybe it leads to a number exchange by buying their drinks. Who knows. In the end, pretty woman tend to get a lot of this kind of behavior, cause well… a bunch of guys are attracted to them. (I’m keeping this PG for the kids in the room).
Must Be Hard…
Why the lengthly intro about guys liking girls? Maybe you watched the video already and understand why. For those who haven’t and wanted to read before listening, thanks for caring about my words. This song from Clark Beckham Must Be Hard Being You is talking about a girl who is very beautiful and is always getting things practically handed to her. Throughout the song Clark goes through meeting a woman of this caliber that is so beautiful it’s hard to believe “You’re in a movie, I’m watching the scene // But there don’t seem to be a screen (mmm) // Girl it’s confusing, how can it be, That you showed up in my reality”.
As he begins trying to court her he is stating what all treatment she gets as a pretty woman “Ohhh I know you never, pay for your drinks, Baby wait stop, you don’t pay for anything”, while continuing that if she were his “I wouldn’t need to dream” saying that he’d do all the things to make her his.
…Being You
The video opens up with Clark walking towards a door in a dark, empty space. As he walks through he is graced with a beautiful woman in front of him as he sings through the first verse. He has a huge cheesy smile on his face that he gets to sit with her. It’s kind of adorable. It’s that smile like “She is way out of me league and I know it. But holy hell she’s actually giving me the time of day” kind of smile. I’m very impressed he pulled that off, off the cuff like that, for a video. I legit think it’s for real. I know this smile well. I’ve made it a time or two in my day. Even with my lovely girlfriend now on our first date.
Throughout the rest of the video it cuts back and forth between him and the woman together on the couch along with a disco ball appearing and insinuating dancing. She keeps stringing him along. You can see this when they are dancing and when they seem to be getting close. She just bails. He chases. As well, it shows him performing to her. Appearing to try to impress her by singing, drumming, and playing guitar at one point. Sadly by the end she takes all that he’s done, and then leaves. Presumably onto the next guy who will buy her drinks and pay for her Uber home. Who knows? Only Clark. That’s who. You can text him at 615-241-9180. (That’s legit. It’s on his website to text him at that number. Think I’m lying. Check the link below)
Rice’s Reaction
I’m a sucker for simplicity. The color scheme and lighting in a dark room fits perfectly to this. It’s such a fun jam, head nodding song that I love the funny simplicity of this. The random disco ball just appearing as they are sitting on the couch had me rolling. I was not expecting that the first time I watched it. His cheesy smile in the beginning when they’re on the couch is still my favorite part. Expressing the emotion of a lot of guys get when they’re with a beautiful woman was on point.
